Reader’s Question:
If I get involved in an accident, where do I file the claim if it wasnt my fault? Is it on my car insurance company or the other party’s company?

In many states if you get involved in an accident and were hit by another car you can file a claim for your damages through the at fault party’s car insurance company.
For damages sustained on your automobile normally it would go through the at fault person’s property damage part of their car insurance policy.
If you are having difficulty filing a car insurance claim through the at fault party’s car insurance then you could instead put the claim through your own collision coverage though your deductible would be due.
I suggest that you speak with your car insurance agent to determine if they plan on subrogating with the at fault party’s car insurance company for the car insurance claim and check if they would also be able to get your deductible amount back as well.
